The Audi R8 racecar GT3, which has been codenamed ‘R16’ by Audi Sport, has been re-engineered from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive [RWD] to conform to GT3 racing regulations.

Changes in Current Lineup

There have been several changes in the new Audi R8 racecar, which include a newly developed six-speed sequential sports gearbox to improve the horsepower level to 500bhp –from the standard R8’s 420hp output. However, the company has left the R8’s suspension almost unaltered, and the other major changes are only in terms of the car’s cosmetics.

Improvements in New Audi R8 Race Car

For improving the downforce, the new Audi R8 racecar has been provided with massive spoiler, while a set of arches have been designed to house the new alloys alongside the new belligerent body kit.
The curb weight of new Audi R8 race car has been brought down to around 1,300kg; a modified front end and a large spoiler have been added to do the needful.

The assembly of the Audi R8 racecars is made by Quattro GmbH in Heilbronn-Biberach, Germany, while Audi’s factory in Györ, Hungary, delivers the new V10 engines.

As a whole, there’s a good leap in terms of performance and the new Audi R8 race car looks pretty sporty too.
